God is forever visiting the world

It’s not unusual when you experience life being put back together again (which is what happening in Psalm 22) that you think that what you have discovered to reorient your life everyone else should discover.

Yahweh is the great discovery in Psalm 22. So, it’s no surprise that as the Psalmist thinks of the future, he pictures a time when all nations and people will turn to God and worship God. For many people, Christmas is about remembering. Many of us are fed by memories of Christmas from days gone by. But Christmas also propels us forward. There is nothing like a baby to bring us a sense of hope that indeed the future can look different. Babies renew our expectation for a changed world, that there might be a time when “all the ends of the earth” will be gathered together and “all families of [all] the nations” will look to something beyond themselves. The message of Christmas is that God is forever visiting the world, that concrete, ordinary life is penetrated by the one whose presence signifies hope that is intended for all people and all creation. That message may be one that the whole world needs to hear.
