Have we lost the Sabbath?
One of the things that I value from my growing up years is the commitment of my parents to regular participation in worship.
Every week "we went to church," as a lot of people like to put it. It was never a question of whether we would go. We always went. It was a part of the routine. Nothing disrupted the routine. Family events, school events. Back then, that wasn't in the realm of possibility in our minds or in the culture. I know it's a new day today. I know life is more complicated. But I think there is something healthy about set-aside time that simply is a part of the routine. Jews call that set-aside time "Sabbath." We live in a time when Sabbath is a lost reality. I suspect that we pay the price for that loss.
