Chaos will not reign forever
The world is feeling quite chaotic right now.
I know that part of that for me is what is happening with my wife. But watching the global situation is very unsettling. We have a leader whose narcissism, ADHD, and cognitive decline enable him to thrive on chaos. Chaos is the environment in which he lives. So, leading in a way that leads to chaos is just natural for him. As I think about the chaos we know now, I am taken to the first story in the Bible, the seven-day creation story. The evidence seems to be strong that this story was put to use in Israel's history at the time of the Babylonian captivity, one of the most chaotic times in Israel's memory. The story was meant to communicate that even though the world seems like a chaotic place, there is an order that underlies life and that is built into creation itself. It doesn't feel like it to me right now, but I find myself being encouraged to trust that order. Chaotic people in history are a dime a dozen. But they ultimately do not reign. I hope that is true.
