What’s Really Behind the Anger?

I think the psychologists are on to something when they tell us that anger is often a secondary emotion.

It may appear that anger is driving some people's behavior, but truthfully it is what is underneath the anger that is driving the bus. For some people, especially men, what is driving them is really hurt or grief. But those emotions are too vulnerable for some. So instead of admitting them, they cover them up with anger. Eventually anger just takes over. It would be easier for all of us, if we all just learned how to lean into our vulnerability, admit that someone or something hurt or caused us to live with gnawing grief. We would spend a whole lot less time in anger if we did so. And everyone would benefit.
