Bad theology leads to bad politics

The notion that we as a country need to support what Israel does because "those who bless Israel will be blessed by God" is not good Biblical work. The modern nation of Israel is not the same thing as the ancient people of God in the Bible. And what's more, God is known in the Old Testament for getting quite ticked off with the ancient people of Israel when they didn't practice justice, so ticked off that he was ready to throw them into the ash heap. To argue that Israel should be supported without question is not good theology and not good politics. Israel needs to be confronted when it is living out injustice. And to say that is not to be involved in antisemitism. Antisemitism is wrong and should not be tolerated. But so is the mass killing in Gaza. And many Jews would agree.
