Fear Sells

Law and order sells. It has in American history.

George Wallace and Richard Nixon both used it to rally their troops. Now it's being used again. The data often doesn't matter in the "law and order" argument. What matters is fear because fear sells. Fear often takes our attention off of ourselves and our actions and creates an enemy--people of a different ethnicity or skin color, immigrants.  And again, it doesn't matter if the facts challenge our assumptions. Fear sells. Fear makes us feel better about ourselves. Sad. Who can rescue us from this bondage to death? Fear may sell, but it doesn't create more whole communities or individuals. In fact, when we buy it we end up paying with our souls.
